Taking into consideration the numerous factors caused by the novel coronavirus, it has been decided that the 42nd Annual Vasaloppet Japan Race, originally planned to be held on March 12-13, 2022, will be cancelled.
Our committee has discussed thus far the possibility of hosting the competition, but the risk of novel coronavirus infection has yet to disappear. Mass spreading of the virus at the event is unavoidable and since it has been challenging to find a safe way to operate such a large gathering, we are prioritizing the health and safety of our staff and participants and have decided to cancel the event.
Although we also find it regrettable that for the third consecutive year we must cancel Vasaloppet Japan, the quintessential winter sports event of Asahikawa, we ask that all who wished to participate please understand our decision.
We are however currently planning to set up “Vasa Course Challenge,” an alternative event for February 2022, and will publish further details on our homepage.
We ask for your continued support and cooperation in Vasaloppet Japan during these times and hope for a swift end to the coronavirus epidemic.
